Backup Your Files
Please Backup files ending with dat, mem, and tps every day! These are automatically backed up when you use our Backup Your Files Backup program, located under Start | Programs | Video, from your Desktop.
The Program Does Not Run
When the software runs, but then notifies you that the date is wrong change the date to the correct date and try again. VMT software will not run if the date on your computer is before 1991. Enter the correct date and try to run the program again. To change the date point your mouse to the bottom right corner of the Windows screen. Double click on the time, change the date to the correct date.
It is possible that your Install Disk could have been damaged during shipment. When this happens you might get a Read Error on the CD Drive. Call VMT and we will send you a new CD. If we have a newer version, we will have to charge for the new version, so if you have a way to backup the CD we send you, go ahead and do it.
Power Problems
The best thing you can do for power problems is buy a backup power supply ( UPS ), that will keep your computer running when the power goes off. This will allow you to properly exit your software, since the computer will still be running.
Without a Battery Backup, Re-indexing or rebuilding the key files after a power outage is almost always necessary. The Reindex program will be found in the directory where you installed Video Shoppe, normally VMTVID. Make sure you are out of the program. Go to the Start Menu | All Programs | Video, and run the reindex program or run the Fix Data program, (then Fix Data, Tag All, Build, Done, Exit). Be sure you have exited the program on all machines on the network.
BACKUP!!!!!!!
Backup EVERY DAY! BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! Go to Start, Programs, Video. Click on Backup Your Files. This will load the backup program from VMT Software. This program does NOT backup your whole computer, only the files for the program. Click on Backup, then Start.
Error on Drive C:
If you get this error you have a HARDWARE problem, VMT cannot help you!! No matter what the computer person says, your hard disk is failing, or something related to the hard disk is failing.We have been doing hardware for over 20 years. This error is NOT caused by software. It is a common practice to blame a computer program for everything from bad weather to your feet hurting. Who knows, maybe software can make your feet hurt. But, software can not make a read or write error on drive C:. This is caused by a bad spot on the drive, or possibly cross linked files.
Note: NEVER turn your computer off when a program is running! Only certain menu programs are the exception, consult your computer person. If your computer person has the Video Program load for you when you turn the computer on, make sure that your Exit the Video program before shutting the computer off. Always use Windows Start | Turn off computer to turn off the computer.
CFIL
When you the reindex program you are running an automated version of CFIL. You can rebuild the key files for one file at a time by running CFIL from the prompt. If you get a error on one file, cash.dat for instance, you can rebuild the keys for just that one file with CFIL. This will be much faster than running the reindex program that does all the files.
To run CFIL change directory to VMTVID, your prompt should look like this C:\VMTVID> To change to this directory type CD\VMTVID and press ENTER.
Type CFIL and press ENTER. With Video Shoppe enter VID as the source file, press ENTER after you put in the source file name. Type in the name of the file you want to index as the label name, like cash.dat, Press ENTER. Press ENTER on the Input and Output lines, press CTRL and ENTER after that. When CFIL is done, the cursor will go to the top of the screen, press ESCAPE to exit CFIL.
Sound Files
To get sounds to work in the program go to File and click on Sound themes. In the Top menu, Update Menu, click on Update from master file. Then click on the Theme? button. The default theme is VIDEO, click on VIDEO and then click on Select. All the settings for the default theme display in the table, click on Close.
Security Files
To set up default security go to Store Maintenance and choose Password Security Levels. Click on the Update from Master button. This will display the levels VMT Software has set up. You can adjust the levels by clicking on the security option you want to change, then click on Change button. Look under Store Maintenance for more detailed information.
Colors
Your program can be set to one of many different color themes. This allows you to change the look of the program to suit your own taste. Go to the File Menu and choose Change Style, a list of several styles displays. Pick a style and click on OK. Go into a few screens and see if you like the colors, if you do great, if not change to another style until you find one like.
