POS Alerts

Top  Previous  Next

When you enter an item to rent or sell, an alert may display to simply alert you, or allow you to make a decision. There is an ( * ) asterisk for those alerts that may be turned on or off in the Company Setup Form.

PIN *

If you have the PIN options turned on in Company Setup, the Add Pin and Get Pin will be available on POS2. If the PIN has already been entered correctly, the green light will be turned on. If a customer forgets their PIN, go here and click Add PIN and allow them to add their own PIN again. (You should have a separate numeric keypad for this so the customer can type it in themselves.) This shows up on the screen as asterisks ( * ) so the clerk will not know the PIN.

Alert to Previous Rental *

This will notify you if this customer has previously rented the movie you are attempting to rent. The default is to not rent this movie to the customer. Press ENTER and choose another movie. If your customer does want to rent this movie again, use the arrow keys (arrow right) and press enter. Or you may click or press Y to choose YES.

Note: If this option is turned on, there may be a small pause when you first attempt to rent an item while Video Shoppe checks the history if the customer has a huge history. For most customers this pause will be negligible. History is checked by name, so if the name is not spelled the same, the alert will not work. For instance, if you have Pretty Woman as one item, and Pretty Woman DVD as another item, they are not considered the same movie. Therefore it is recommended even if the formats are different, keep the movie name the same. Use the format field in inventory to track formats, not the title.

Customer May Not Rent

If the status field of the customer has 'Do Not Rent' or there is a tilde ( ~ ) anywhere in the status field, the program will not allow the customer to rent a movie. They may however still purchase items.

Movie Rents for Free *

If the customer has free movies coming, and the item you are attempting to rent qualifies to be rented for free ( it is an ' F ' instead of an ' R ' in the inventory), this alert will display, asking if you should rent the item for free. Many times a customer will not want to rent the item for free if perhaps you are having a special on that day, they may want to save their free movie for later. If the alert is turned of in the Company Setup Form, the movie will automatically rent for free, again, only if they have free movies coming and it is an ' F ' movie. Remember, a customer can gain free movies if you sell them a coupon (punch card), or you have the rent so many, get one free option set up in the Company Setup Form.

Price not in Matrix *

Most of the time you will want to turn this alert off. It is usually just used for testing the price matrix for different movies. Remember, the price matrix is only required to override the number of days to rent or the normal price. Just because the price isn't in the matrix doesn't mean you don't have things setup correctly.

Credit Card is Expired *

There are 2 Credit card alerts in the Company Setup Form. The one (under Alert if) only alerts you when you try to pay with a credit card. The other (Under Rent Options 2), will alert you if they either have no credit card or it is expired, when you try to rent an item. This is for companies that do not rent to people unless they have a credit card.
