All Customer photo's are actually stored in a separate database that contains the customer ID, and the photo.
You can browse through the pictures here. If the customer has been deleted, the picture is not deleted because it is in a separate file. (This may be changed in the future to allow an option to delete the customer pictures when the customer id deleted...)
