Again, the ID must be unique throughout all the inventory in the system, rentals, sales, coupons, etc. Make the membership title obvious as to what it is.
The type must be a Membership Item Type.
Days for membership sets the expiration date to today (the day you sell it) plus 30 days. If the membership Item Type does not allow it to expire, then this doesn't matter (for Regular memberships).
The Sale Price is how much the membership is going to cost when the customer buys it.
Subscription Memberships
Maximum Rentals should only be filled in if this is a subscription membership. This is how many rentals they can have out at a time. If they rent more than this, the normal rental price and due date will be used. Otherwise, these rentals will be due one day after the membership expires, and will be rented for $0.
If you fill in something in the Allowable Types, then only those rental Item Types will be qualified under this membership. For most video stores, you would never allow NEW releases to be on a membership. But it is a great idea for older movies and games. Simply type in the Item Type(s), separated by a Pipe Symbol ( | ) [above the backslash].
Subscription memberships expire at the end of the 30 days. There is a setup in the Membership item type as to whether the membership will expire or not. The Subscriptions always expire. However, if the Membership Item Type is not set to expire, then the price matrix pricing will take over for the prices.
So you could have 2 kinds of subscription memberships, both of them identical, 30 days expiration, same kind of movies, etc. But the difference could be the Membership item type where one expires and one does not.
Let's say we have a 30 day subscription for our REG movies, and the Membership Item Type is not set to expire. At the end of the 30 days, we will no longer get the movies for free, but the prices will be different from the price matrix. This is good for Senior Citizens.
The other membership is exactly the same but it uses a Membership Item Type that will expire, so when it does, nobody will get any special pricing from the price matrix.
Regular Memberships
If you don't type in a Max Rentals, the membership is considered a regular membership, and while they are not expired (or if it doesn't expire because of the Membership Item Type), the prices will come from the Price Matrix.
