Error 5000
All software shipped from VMT has a timer built in for funds verification. When the error 5000 displays on your screen apx 30 to 45 days have passed since you bought the software. As the error screen says call VMT within 5 days to receive your permanent time code.
Error 9000 An error 9000 occurs after 5 days of not calling to get your permanent code from an error 5000. There is no way to fix this without calling VMT.
Another time when you would get an error code 9000 is if the software was installed on a second computer, the software is only good for one location and one computer. An error 9000 would happen if you installed the software again trying to solve a problem without calling VMT. NEVER install the software again to solve a problem!!! 99% of the time it will NOT solve the problem and it will lock you out of the system as soon as you try to run it. If you have installed before, and it seemed to fix it, it is because it runs the reindex.bat file which re-creates your indexes. You can also run Fixdata. Both of these are available from the Start | All Programs | Video menu. Make sure when you are running ANYTHING from the Start menu / All Programs / Video Menu that you are NOT running the program on this or any other computer.
Error 4 - Too Many Open Files (on Windows 98 or ME)
This means your program has too many open files for your computer to run the program. This should not happen if you got a demo and installed your program on the same computer.
If your program was running and this error appears then you probably installed a new program, from someone else, on your computer. It changed the config.sys file starts your computer. You will need to edit this file and change the files= to read 'files=80', then reboot your computer, to make your program run again.
Go to Start, Run and type sysedit, the click on OK. Several windows will open, click on Config.sys and add, or change it to say files=80. Click on the X in the corner of the windows and say yes to save it.
Error 32 - File is Already Locked
The customer, or inventory item you want to change is being changed by someone else on the network. You will need to see who is making the change. When they are done you can edit the customer, or inventory item.
Error 35 - Record Not Found
Your program can not find the customer, or item you are looking for in your files.
Error 38 - Invalid Key File
See Error 47
Error 40 - Creates Duplicate Key
In some areas of your program information for one item is special. You can only have one inventory item number for one inventory item, for instance. If you try to enter the same number twice you will get this error. It means that item has already been entered in the program.
Error 46 - Key File Must be Rebuilt
Key files help your program find information as fast as possible. They are like a index in a book. When you have been using your program for quite some time, your files can get very large. Instead of looking through a 39 megabyte file, the keys files keep track of where something is in the file and go right to it. If a key file becomes damaged, due to a power problem, or other events you may get this error.
To correct the error, exit your program and change directory to VMTVID. Type the word REINDEX and press ENTER. This will rebuild the key files.
Error 47 - Invalid Key File
If you get a Invalid Key File error you can repair it in one of two different ways. Running the Reindex program, is the easiest way to repair an Invalid Key File.
Error 4 - Too Many Open Files
This error should not occur at all, if you have used the Install Program and answered Yes to change Config.sys file.
What this error really means is you do not have enough files set in your config.sys file. Exactly backwards but then we did not make up the error codes. Or you can edit your config.sys file and change the file=XXX to at least files=120.
Error - Access Denied
If you get this error your hard disk is probably very close to being full, or is full. You could get this error if you are running the program more than once on the same machine.
Error - Read Error Drive C:
This is a problem with your hard drive. Try running Chkdsk /f or Scandisk. If you get this error and have not been doing backups, Good Luck.... If chkdsk or scandisk does not fix the problem you will need to call your computer hardware person.P
Error on Drive C:
If you get this error you have a HARDWARE problem, VMT can not help you!! No matter what the computer person says, your hard disk is failing, or something related to the hard disk is failing. We have been doing hardware for over 20 years now, this error is NOT caused by software. It is a common practice to blame a computer program for everything from bad weather to your feet hurting. Who knows, maybe software can make your feet hurt. But, software can not make a read or write error on drive C:. This is caused by a bad spot on the drive, or possibly cross linked files. You can check for cross linked files with chkdsk and scandisk refer your computer manual.
A note; NEVER turn your computer off when a program is running! Only certain menu programs are the exception, consult your computer person. If your computer person has the Video Program load for you when you turn the computer on make sure that your Exit the Video program before shutting the computer off.
CFIL
When you the reindex program you are running an automated version of CFIL. You can rebuild the key files for one file at a time by running CFIL from the prompt. If you get a error on one file, cash.dat for instance, you can rebuild the keys for just that one file with CFIL. This will be much faster than running the reindex program that does all the files.
To run CFIL change directory to VMTVID, your prompt should look like this C:\VMTVID> To change to this directory type CD\VMTVID and press ENTER.
Type CFIL and press ENTER. With Video Shoppe enter VID as the source file, press ENTER after you put in the source file name. Type in the name of the file you want to index as the label name, like cash.dat, Press ENTER. Press ENTER on the Input and Output lines, press CTRL and ENTER after that. When CFIL is done, the cursor will go to the top of the screen, press ESCAPE to exit CFIL.
