Without customers, you don't have much of a business. Video Shoppe is built with the idea that you sell or rent inventory to your customers. Some retail businesses don't require customer information, or perhaps, don't want the customer information. However, you will find more and more that businesses are starting to collect customer data. It is very important to use your customer data to not only help your business, but enhance your customers experience when renting or buying from your store.
It is certainly nice when a customer can walk in your store and ask if they've seen a particular movie because your software keeps track. Or when a customer asks how long ago they bought a dvd player from you, to see if the warranty is still in effect, and you can look it up with a few keystrokes or mouse clicks.
For rental items that will be returned, it is imperative that you enter the customers information, so you can call them and hopefully retrieve the item from them if they do not return it. And of course, how else can you track late charges, see if the customer is a good renter, and track much more information, but by entering customers.
For sales, you don't need to track the customers information. For things that are guaranteed, it would be prudent to make sure you sell to the customer with all of their information. For items that are of no consequence or cannot be returned, like soda, or candy, popcorn, etc., you could simply sell it to cash.
As our system requires a customer, simply add a cash customer, ID number is cash, first name is cash, last name is customer, for instance.
If you create an ID number of C1 through C9, they are considered cash customers that do NOT get a receipt printed. Many video stores have receipts that have agreements on them and do not wish to waste a receipt on a sale of a soda.
