As far as I'm concerned, if you're in business, a web page is just like having a business card. (Then when you have a web page, be sure to put it on your business card!)
I am amazed how many people regularly surf the web, have a business, and just don't think that having a web site applies to their business. Did you know that many people will go to a retailers web site, see what they have, then drive down to the retailers store?
If you can follow directions, you can probably build a web site. It's not as hard as you think. But it takes a little concentration.
Once you have a web site, there is a whole new world of possibilities.
Create a signup page to build your email list.
Publish your movies (using our Vidport program).
Put on a map to your location.
Put on a picture of your store, the hours, etc.
Mention other items that you sell.
Create a page just for up and coming releases.
I'm sure you can think of quite a few more things to add to this list.
You can actually purchase a domain name, and have it hosted for a year for around $50.00.
If you're interested in building your own web site, let me know. If I see a lot of interest I'll create a web page on our site that will give you step by step instructions on acquiring a domain name and a place to host it.
The other alternative to creating your own web site is to pay a monthly charge. There are a couple of places I am aware of that send out a weekly email to your customers telling them what new releases are coming out.
One is VPD at http://www.vpdinc.com/
The other is Ingram at http://www.ingramentertainment.com/
We have a few customers that are paying I believe around $20 a month for these services. You may also have to belong to them (they are distributors) in order to use their email service. (check with them for details).
The only drawback I can see to these services is they may promote movies that you may not be purchasing. Other than that, they are always on time. I know, I subscribed to my customers web services for each one of the above distributors.
Start collecting Email Addresses. Your customers will appreciate it. Then at least you can send them all an email once a week telling them in plain old text exactly what you'll have on Tuesday!
The web site is not quite done, but we're getting ready to release our Contact Manager called Prospector to the world. It actually interfaces with Video Shoppe and we use it here everyday. Have I mentioned that we now use Video Shoppe as our Point of Sale here at VMT?
You can get a sneak preview of the website, and even sign up for the Prospector letters on the website.
Check it out and let me know what you think. I appreciate your opinion.
